Synopsis:
Divorce is experienced by thousands of families every year. How a divorce is managed can have lasting impacts on a child’s mental health, education, relationships and well-being. This talk will introduce you to the research around divorce and its effect on children as well as their parents. We will then discuss what we, as clinicians and practitioners, can do to help adults and children as they go through this stressful process.
Speaker:
Dr Angharad Rudkin is a Clinical Psychologist with over 20 years’ experience working with children and their families. She worked at the University of Southampton for 12 years and continues to teach and mark for its Clinical Psychology course. Angharad has co-written a number of books for parents and children, including The Split Survival Kit a book for children going through divorce. She is Director of Training at Only Mums and Dads, creating and running the flagship training course for family law professionals “What about Henry?”, which was recently shortlisted for a Resolution award. Angharad regularly appears on radio and TV as an expert on child and family issues.
